Associate Director, Center for Professional Development, Bryn Mawr
Posted by on May 9, 2023
Background:
Bryn Mawr College’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (GSSWSR) is rooted in Quaker values. As a college and graduate school, we are deeply committed to transforming the world for the better, with a strong emphasis on advocating for groups that are oppressed or marginalized in our society. Many of our graduates serve in the nonprofit and public sectors.
Since 2004, the GSSWSR has been home to the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute (NELI), a training institute that supports nonprofit professionals’ growth and leadership skills. As the GSSWSR has worked to imagine a post-pandemic future, NELI was reconceptualized into the Center for Student Success and Social Sector Leadership. “The Center” will build on NELI’s legacy and structure with programming that is accessible and responsive to the needs of our GSSWSR students, alumni, and community-based organizations.
The significance and role of the social sector (a world that includes nonprofits, community organizations, foundations and government agencies among other institutions) is rapidly expanding. As the social sector continues to grow, so does the need for leadership that is inclusive, empathetic, collaborative and innovative. The Center will focus on training related to inclusive management and organizational resilience as well as the expanding area of social sector leadership.
Position Overview:
The Associate Director of the Center for Professional Development reports to the Director of the Center for Professional Development. This position supports the Center for Professional Development and the GSSWSR’s commitment to supporting students, alumni, and community-based organizations in developing new skills and facilitating emerging roles within social sector leadership.
We seek to hire a self-motivated, creative and entrepreneurial individual with extensive knowledge and experience in the nonprofit and public sectors; and who deeply understands the opportunities and challenges that social workers, community and nonprofit leaders and their organizations face. This individual will understand the growing importance of social work, social sector leadership, the nonprofit sector and community-based organizations in the world and have a passion for The Center’s values, vision, and mission. Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the GSSWSR’s values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
