ASSOCIATE CHAPLAIN

The University of Pennsylvania invites applications for the position of Associate Chaplain.  The Office of the Chaplain leads the interfaith community of a University founded on a strong tradition of religious freedom.  We provide guidance and mentorship to the University’s 25 official religious organizations, while advancing moral and ethical reflection for the entire community, organizing educational and interfaith events, and supporting spiritual and religious initiatives across Penn’s 12 diverse schools.

The Associate Chaplain will work along with the University Chaplain in promoting a wide ranging ecumenical and interfaith religious life presence on the campus. This person will also meet regularly with student groups and help plan, organize, and execute religious life activities. She/he will assist the
Chaplain and the Administrative Coordinator in disseminating information about religious life at Penn through the Web, brochures, newsletter and other instruments in a variety of venues, including the college houses. The Associate Chaplain also provides support and counseling to individual members of the Penn community.  Likewise, this Associate Chaplain coordinates the Religious Life Liaison Program, a residentially based, student led program of activities and discussions about religion and spirituality and coordinates, and along with the University Chaplain, the Student Interfaith Council – PRISM (Programs in Religion, Interfaith and Spirituality Matters). This person may also be asked to maintain and revise, as directed, the Chaplain’s webpage and related websites.

In addition to the above tasks, the Associate Chaplain co-directs the West Philadelphia partnership efforts with communities of faith (CHORDS). This person will work along with the University Chaplain in the office programming and in the visionary process for the office.
