Assistant Teacher, Youth Urban Renewal Arts Program

YoUth RAP, the Youth Urban Renewal Arts Program of The Institute for the Study of Civic Values, is a year round program dedicated to teaching young people how to find their civic voice through art. Through lessons, activities, and trips, we work to give to students a sense of their own power, teaching them how to make positive changes in their neighborhoods and communities.

YoUth RAP serves young people grades 5th through 8th. We are located in school facilities in the Olney section of North Philadelphia and in Rhawhurst in the Northeast. Our school year hours are daily from 3 PM – 5:45 PM – although every 2 weeks we run from noon – 5:45 PM. Our summer program hours are from 9am-5pm Monday through Friday.

This position has an immediate opening. On the job training provided along with paid formal training hours.

Experience is Required:
Experience with Children- 1 year experience working with school aged youth.
Civic Involvement- 6 months volunteer or professional experience with grassroots organizations.
Art Background- demonstrated artistic experience or training- creativity a must!
Transportation- Not required, but definitely a plus.

All staff is expected to:
-Interact with the youth and be present during the program hours.
-Help recruit students at the beginning of the school year/summer, and as necessary.
-Development of special projects and promotional activities.
-Attend functions outside of normal program hours (town meetings, trainings, workshops, etc.).
-File paper work in a timely manner.
Paper work responsibilities include: Monthly attendance, sign-in sheets, daily reports, and completed paperwork for each student, and time sheets.

– If hired, all candidates must receive satisfactory clearance of child abuse and criminal background checks, have a clear TB test, FBI clearance, and attend required trainings.

Compensation: $11-$13 per hour or $15,500.  Annual salary
