Assistant Project Director, Summer Youth Employment

POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Project Director will be responsible for the day-to-day management of UAC’s Summer Youth Employment programs, providing over 1,000 youth with paid work experience and professional development each summer. In between seasons, this position is also responsible for UAC’s Thanksgiving Basket program and supporting UAC’s mission through additional projects as needed. The individual selected for this position may have an opportunity to advance to the Project Director position.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Summer Youth Employment Program
- Responsible for day-to-day management of a complex and large-scale project;
- Manage a team of 30-50 seasonal staff, including 2-4 program managers, to ensure program goals are met;
- In consultation with Project Director, establish milestones and monitor adherence to master plans and schedules, identify program problems and obtain solutions;
- Participate in interviewing and hiring 30-50 seasonal staff each summer;
- Troubleshooting program-related questions and issues, including liaison with the funder, internal departments, and program personnel
- Provide day-to-day oversight over all phases of the program including:
- Recruiting and enrolling youth program participants and organizational host worksites;
- Placing qualified youth participants at participating worksites;
- Processing of youth payroll and pay distribution;
- Planning and implementation of youth professional development activities and contextual learning projects;
- Managing inquiries and concerns from youth, their families and caregivers, organizations, and the general public
- Support the Project Director with financial management including:
- Entering invoices and purchase requests in accounting system;
- Tracking of invoices and purchases to ensure timely processing;
- Budgeting and tracking expenses vs actuals;
- Other related duties as assigned.
Thanksgiving Basket Program
Manage the application process for organizations to apply to receive Thanksgiving Baskets;
Review applications and make Thanksgiving Basket distribution decisions appropriately;
Handle volunteer recruitment and all logistics for Thanksgiving Basket packing and distribution;
Collaborate with UAC staff or consultant to support an effective fundraising campaign and publicity;
Other related duties as assigned.
