Assistant Director of Upward Bound, Temple University

Temple University Upward Bound (UB) is a federally-funded TRIO college and career readiness program for Philadelphia youth in grades 9-12. The youth are supported in their aspirations to attend college with after-school, Saturday, and summer programming focused on academic classes, standardized test preparation, career exposure, social-emotional learning, tutoring, and mentorship. Academic advising, college and financial aid counseling, cultural enrichment activities and visits to college campuses are also components of the Temple UB experience for participants.

Under the leadership of the Program Director, the Assistant Director of Upward Bound (UB) provides administrative and logistical support for the Temple Upward Bound (UB) Program’s after-school, Saturday, and six-week Summer Program activities. The Assistant Director of UB will manage the cohort of 95 high school student participants.

Among the key responsibilities of the Assistant Director of UB is the creation and monitoring of Educational Learning and Action Plans (ELAPs) for each participant in the program, co-creating, facilitating, and general oversight of the daily activities of on and off-campus programming for UB, data collection and management, and supervision of student workers.

The Assistant Director of UB will also be responsible for working with the Assistant Director of College Access and Persistence in the College of Education and Human Development to recruit potential participants for the UB program. Along with the Program Director, the Assistant Director of UB will coordinate the student selection process, communicate with participants’ families, and communicate with partner schools. Performs other duties as assigned.
