Assistant Director, Media Tank
An exciting opportunity to help lead Philadelphia?s premiere media education organization!
Media Tank has an immediate opening for an Assistant Director; we are looking to fill this position as soon as possible. The Assistant Director will provide leadership and direction for Media Tank?s administration, fundraising, and community education efforts. Ideal candidate will be responsible, high-performing individual with experience in all or most of the following areas: nonprofit administration, program development, event planning, popular education, fundraising, and motivating and supervising young people.
This is an exciting new position that combines administration and management duties with program coordination. The Assistant Director will work closely with Media Tank?s executive director to coordinate community education activities and manage the organization?s day-to-day operations. S/he will have the opportunity to promote critical thinking skills and provide tools needed to engage Philadelphia residents and communities in working for a media system that more adequately reflects their needs. S/he will work to build public understanding of the current American media system and how media justice and communication rights relate to people?s everyday lives and struggles.
Full-time position; occasional evening and weekend hours. Salary commensurate with experience. Good health and dental benefits.
Responsibilities
Job responsibilities will include:
Administration/Management/Fundraising
– Assist with organization?s financial operations
– Prepare annual and quarterly budget reports
– Oversee the development of website
– Advise executive director on strategic decisions for program development and operations
– Manage program assistants and student interns
– Assist with fundraising including grantwriting, special events and research
– Provide support for executive director
– Assist with general organization and office duties
Program Development
– Manage event planning and logistics
– Negotiate with presenters and venues
– Manage program and curriculum development
– Coordinate lesson planning/workshop design
– Develop online resource centers and other resource materials including flyers, fact sheets, resource lists, handouts, etc.
– Recruit and manage volunteers/participants
– Outreach to community groups and leaders
– Convene and facilitate meetings
– Conduct workshops and trainings
Qualifications
– College graduate
– Familiarity with media justice/reform issues
– 3-5 years non-profit experience
– Staff/volunteer supervision/management
– Background in public education, community or popular education
– Experience with program development; workshop design and implementation
– Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Must be comfortable with public speaking (to community groups, the press, etc.)
– Computer proficiency (MAC preferred) ? Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Filemaker Pro
– Good interpersonal skills (work well collaboratively, able to give and receive feedback, etc.)
– Commitment to social, racial, and economic justice
Successful candidate will be reliable and self-motivated, self-assured with a professional attitude, enthusiastic and able to learn quickly, organized and detail-oriented, and able to work with and motivate a wide range of people.
Other desirable strengths include: Graphic/web design/administration/programming, familiarity with Philadelphia communities and/or politics, and a good sense of humor.
