Reporting to the Director for Web Initiatives in the Office of Marketing and Communications, the Assistant Director for Web Communications serves as a writer/editor, project manager, production assistant, and cross-departmental liaison to coordinate the daily operations of a wide range of content-driven web projects.
Duties:
Develop, gather, proofread, edit, and organize a wide range of written content and ensure that it sustains the established brand, voice/tone, and editorial standards. Help to gather content requirements from stakeholders to coordinate the project scope, production schedule, and production support. Provide customer support to academic units, administrative offices, faculty, staff, and students and accommodate incoming requests for content updates and site improvements. Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, and students with regard to developing and contributing content for the SJU websites. Help provide ongoing assessment of the website’s user experience factors: usefulness, usability, credibility, findability, accessibility, desirability, and value. Produce and maintain webpages and websites by arranging various content via the website’s content management system (CMS). Help produce email newsletters, blogs, documentations, formatted documents, and other digital assets. Collaborate with internal teams (graphic designers, writers, editors, photographer, web developers) and vendors to help plan various web projects. Contribute to the analysis of site statistics and keep abreast of user behaviors and traffic trends. Hire, train, supervise, and mentor student employees to assist in the operation.
Required Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Creative Writing or related field, or an equivalent combination of work and education background. Minimum three years of work experience writing, proofreading and managing online content. Good understanding of web writing best practices; demonstrated knowledge of search engine visibility. • Experience working on webpages via a CMS and basic knowledge of HTML tags. Proficient in such tools as Word, Excel, Google Drive. • Comfortable mining for trends in Google Analytics.
Preferred Qualifications: Regularly contributes to blogs such as Medium and Tumblr. • Experience working for an educational institution. • Experience working as part of a communications and/or marketing team. • Basic understanding of UX considerations. • Basic knowledge of CSS a plus.
