Assistant Director for Community Service, Lehigh University

The Assistant Director for Community Service works in conjunction with the Director for Community Service in coordinating volunteer opportunities for the Lehigh community. This person is responsible for program development and implementation, training and advising, assessment and evaluation as well as assisting with long-term vision and planning for the Community Service Office.
Accountabilities:
- Work with the Director to coordinate, maintain, and establish short and long range planning activities for the Community Service Office
- Collaborate with the Director to develop semester and year long office goals
- Assist with the development of action steps to accomplish office goals in agreement with departmental goals
- Assist with the communication and implementation of the departmental goals to constituencies across campus and in the local community
- Serve as an integral member of the office by attending regular staff meetings, assisting with other office initiatives, and contributing wherever possible
- Demonstrate expertise in the Community Service Office Guiding Principles, Five Critical Elements, the Spectrum of Service and national trends and new knowledge which serves as the foundation for the office programming structure
2. Coordinate Community Service Programs
- Supervise all ongoing Community Service Office programs, including but not limited to: Feel Good Fridays, Parents’ Night Out, Soup Kitchen trips, and Blood Drives
- Supervise one-time flagship programs including, but not limited to Spooktacular and SERVE trips
- Continuously adjust program curriculum, marketing for programs, program scheduling and evaluation for all community service initiatives to best meet the desired student learning outcomes and the overall student life curriculum initiative
- Work with Director to plan and implement staff retreats, training, and other skill building opportunities throughout the year
- Work with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs and the Office of Student Activities to coordinate meaningful service opportunities from Greek chapters and student clubs/organizations
- Coordinate promotion for, student attendance at, and after experience debriefing for national, regional, and local community service leadership opportunities
3. Assist with campus wide integration of community service efforts
- Work with the Director of Community Service to integrate programming philosophy/structure and resources to a variety of campus constituents
- Aid in the creation of new and innovative community service programs for students at all developmental levels within a variety of populations and groups
- Meet regularly with both professional and student staff members to stay abreast of overarching service initiatives
- Participate in programs and training opportunities, and encourage students to become engaged in programs that integrate a variety of different students from the campus community
- Coordinate and execute in collaboration with the Director any university-wide philanthropy or service opportunities related to natural disasters or other emergencies
4. Advise, support and provide education opportunities for meaningful community service initiatives?
- Advise the Live.Learn.Serve residential communities
- Advise and support volunteers on community engagement initiativesTrain students and staff to effectively design, facilitate, implement and lead community service programs
- Serve as a resource to students, faculty and staff about South Bethlehem/Greater Lehigh Valley community needs and ways to serve
- Supervise Work Study Students
- Provide training, retreats, and other learning opportunities for student leaders to be responsible active citizens
5. Assessment and evaluation
- Evaluate all initiatives using the evaluation processes developed by the Community Service Office; based on evaluation information, make changes to those opportunities as necessary
- In all programming and training, include mechanisms for measuring all learning outcomes
- Implement an assessment plan for the student staff that measures learning and skill development
- Conduct research on “promising practices” resources, programmatic materials, and new initiatives related to community service and engagement
- Seek professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge base, areas of expertise and an understanding of theories and practices
- Collaborates with Director to design, implement, assess, and report learning outcomes for the CSO
6. Serve as an integral member of the larger Dean of Students Office and Student Affairs team
- Serve on Dean of Students Office committees and as a cross-functional team member
- Collaborate with university administration and other offices to facilitate good interoffice working relationships and partnerships
- Provide guidance and serves as a resource to faculty and staff related to Community Service in the general student population
- Participate in a collateral assignment in another functional area as interested and with the approval of direct supervisor
