New funding for IDA programs announced
The Assets for Independence program, which offers federal matching funds for low-income individuals and families saving for postsecondary education, homeownership or microenterprise, has announced that $19 million is available for new grants averaging up to $350,000.
AFI projects assist low-income individuals and families in becoming economically self-sufficient. Project participants are given access to special matched savings accounts called Individual Development Accounts (IDAs).
Grantees must provide non-federal funds to support their AFI project in an amount at least equal to the federal AFI grant amount.
