ASCAB CAPOEIRA?S 5th ANNUAL BATIZADO —
Sun. Oct. 24th, 2004 at 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m+;

South Philadelphia YMCA, located at 1724 Christian St.

What do UPenn, Temple, Drexel, Swarthmore, Villanova, St. Joseph?s and CCP have in common (besides all belonging to PHENND)? That?s right–Capoeira! Students from across all these local college campuses–plus other schools and universities–participate in this exciting Afro-Brazilian art form: part dance, part fight, part game. Many of these students train with ASCAB Capoeira, a non-profit organization founded and led by Mestre Doutor. Mestre Doutor will be joined by his dedicated team of instructors, well-known in this region for their performances as well as for their great teaching skills. As your students can attest, ASCAB Capoeira is highly committed to teaching, promoting and maintaining the traditions of Capoeira: its rhythms and music, its singing in Portuguese, its intense body work-out and artistic expression.

Mestre Doutor and all of the students in this region-wide gathering thus invite you to enjoy an afternoon celebrating the Brazilian sport and arts of Capoeira, now becoming so popular across the US:

* See action-packed Capoeira (kick-fighting), Maculele (stick-fighting), and samba dancing accompanied by live musicians;
* Witness an exciting martial arts competition as well as a graduation ceremony representing the students? reward for their hard work during the past year of training.
* ASCAB performers and students will be joined by Mestre Corisco, renowned Capoeira master from Brazil, among other visiting masters from across the US.

There is a suggested donation of $10.00 at the door. For more information, please visit: http://www.ascabcapoeira.org
