Art As Resistance Gala: Taking Back Control – Oct 26-30

For the second year in a row, the Institute for Community Justice will celebrate its Art as Resistance Gala from October 25 to October 30 in its offices on 1207 Chestnut Street, 2nd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19107. This year’s theme is TAKING BACK CONTROL and will include discussion panels, empowerment sessions, and showcase art created by former and current incarcerated people.
The Art as Resistance Gallery hours:
- Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 4 PM – 8 PM
- Thursday: 12 PM – 5 PM
- Saturday: 10 AM – 2 PM
The Changing Paradigms panel will be moderated by Institute for Community Justice Director Assata Thomas and Death by Incarceration podcast hosts, Suave Gonzalez and Kevin McCracken on Thursday, October 28 at 6 pm. District Attorney Larry Krasner, Robert “Saleem” Holbrook of the Abolitionist Law Center, Professor John Hulme, and Dr. Jacqueline Bailey-Davis will discuss restorative justice systemic issues and solutions.
The Art as Resistance Gala culminates on Saturday, October 30 at 3 pm with the Real Rap on Reentry panel, a community conversation to destigmatize the journey of reentry. Panelists will include Cynthia Alvarado, Jeff Abramowitz, Executive Director of Reentry Services at JEVS Human Services, Ken Bagley, Lebrian Brown, and Maurice Q. Jones. Ms. Angeline Dean will moderate this event.
