Leeway Foundation Invites Applications for Art and Change Grants
The Philadelphia-based Leeway Foundation believes that art is a vital tool for community building, self-expression, and individual and collective transformation and can bridge difference, center those who have been on the margins, and challenge and connect communities and individuals to live in peaceful coexistence. To that end, the foundation works to promote artistic expression that amplifies the voices of those on the margins, promotes sustainable and healthy communities, and works in the service of movements for economic and social justice.
The foundation currently is inviting applications for its Art and Change Grant program. Through the program, grants of up to $2,500 will be award to women and trans artists in the greater Philadelphia are in support of art-for-social-change projects.
The foundation encourages proposals from artists whose project or opportunity will impact a larger group, audience, or community and who have financial need and limited or no access to other financial resources. Recognizing that most art and social change work happens through relationships with other people and/or organizations, the foundation is particularly interested in projects that are supported by and/or executed in collaboration with a change partner (defined by the foundation as a person, organization, or business that is part of an applicant’s project in some way and/or is a member of the community in which the project takes place), which may include mentors, editors, art spaces, theaters, nonprofit organizations, dance studios, radio stations, and production companies.
Leeway is a trans-affirming organization committed to gender self-determination and uses the term “trans” in its most inclusive sense as encompassing transsexual, transgender, genderqueer, Two-Spirit people, and anyone whose gender identity or gender expression is non-conforming and/or different from their gender assigned at birth.
Applicants must live and work in the greater Philadelphia area, which includes Bucks, Camden, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
See the Leeway Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
