Arboretum Director, Temple University

Reporting to the Director of the Ambler Campus, the Arboretum Director shall be responsible for leading the efforts of Temple University Ambler to realize an expanded and sustainable vision for the Arboretum. The Landscape Arboretum Director will work closely with the faculty and students in the Landscape Architecture and Horticulture department (LA/Hort).
The Director will focus on planning and developing goals for the Arboretum that are consistent with both the mission and plans for the Ambler Campus and supportive of the academic programs of LA/Hort. The Director will be an ambassador of the Ambler Arboretum in the academic community, horticultural and landscape organizations and in other communities.
Arboretum Director responsibilities include overall operations and maintenance; administrative oversight; supervision and evaluation of campus arboretum staff; provide instruction as needed and as primary role allows; and development of programs to serve educational and community outreach goals as well as programs and special events to generate revenue for the arboretum. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Master’s degree in horticulture, landscape architecture or other related field and at least 2 years’ relevant experience. Demonstrated project management, horticulture, native plants, landscape maintenance, and sustainable practices experience. Experience working with boards, volunteer leadership, and other ways to engage external groups and individuals. Experience teaching and working with the horticulture, gardening, landscape architecture and related communities. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
