Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy Accepting Applications for Research

The Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy was established in 1997 to support the advancement of research and understanding in the major fields of the social sciences, including psychology, anthropology, sociology, economics, urban affairs, area studies, and political science.

Preference is given to projects that address contemporary issues in the social sciences as well as issues of policy relevance. Additional priority will be given to projects that address large-scale geographical situations and those with policy applications beyond the research design itself; projects that rely on large empirically informed sample sizes, often in historically rich time series, and that make few presumptions of application; projects that are theoretically rich and emphasize policy issues of broad meaning to the larger public sphere; and/or projects that fall under areas where few previous research applications are currently available.

Awards are made to individuals, not institutions; if processed through an institution, a waiver for overhead is requested.

Grants are limited to aspiring Ph.D. students at the dissertation level whose project has received approval from their appropriate department head/university. Applicants may propose new projects or solicit support for research in progress. Applicants are not required to be citizens or residents of the United States.
