North Carolina Campus Compact’s Pathways to Achieving Civic Engagement (PACE) Conference, February 9, 2022 [Virtual] (9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), now in its 25th year, is for faculty, staff, researchers, community partners, and graduate students who want to gain skills, knowledge and best practice models for a spectrum of community and civic engagement pedagogies and practices. This year’s event includes the 20th Anniversary Celebration of NCCC, a keynote address, 24 high-quality workshops, and presentation of the 2022 Civic Engagement Awards.

Sampling of workshop topics:

  • Catalyzing & Sustaining Situated & Emergent CBL: Moving Beyond Course- & Semester-Bound Engagement
  • Shared Liberation: Integrating Anti-Oppression into Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement
  • Reflecting on, Assessing, and Deepening Partnerships in SLCE
  • Community-Based Research and Civic Leadership Development: Lessons from SOL
  • Innovating with Open Access Data on Community Engagement
  • Creating a Rural Place-Based Education Program Using the Community Capitals

  • Vertical Scaffolding of Faculty Development to Support Community-Based Instruction
  • Deepening Community and Authentic Engagement in Co-creative Virtual Settings

The 2022 keynote speaker is Eric Liu, President and CEO of Citizen University. Liu is a former White House speechwriter and deputy domestic policy adviser.  He directs the Aspen Institute’s Citizenship & American Identity Program and is a correspondence at TheAtlantic.com.  His eight books include You’re More Powerful Than You Think: A Citizen’s Guide to Making Change Happen, and the national best-sellers The Gardens of Democracy and True Patriot. Liu’s latest book is Become America: Civic Sermons on Love, Responsibility and Democracy.
