The Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) 2025 Annual Conference, The Power of Place, October 26-29, in Baltimore, MD, brings us together to explore how urban and metropolitan campuses drive regional development, student success, and community impact. Grounded in the host city and developed in partnership with local campuses, the program addresses issues of national and international significance. Attendees engage across roles, disciplines, institutions, and sectors through a dynamic mix of keynotes, presentations, workshops, and community-based sessions. The CUMU Conference fosters collaboration, sparks new ideas, and strengthens the connection between campuses and the communities they serve.

The higher education landscape is undergoing rapid transformation. This plenary, on Monday, October 27, will explore the implications of recent trends in public funding, policy, and accountability; the opportunities and tensions in state-system collaboration; and how higher education can remain a driver of social and economic mobility.
