Become an Ameri*Corps VISTA member with Project SHINE!
SHINE (Students Helping in the Naturalization of Elders) is a national service-learning initiative that builds partnerships among community colleges, universities, and community-based organizations to benefit older immigrants, refugees, and college students.
VISTA member will:
q Recruit college students to become SHINE tutors
q Develop a student leadership base on campus
q Establish partnerships with community centers and senior programs
q Organize reflection sessions and end-of-semester celebrations
Applicants should have a bachelor?s degree, excellent communication and organizational skills, a commitment to literacy, citizenship, immigration and aging issues, and experience tutoring adults in ESL and literacy. Bilingual skills a plus!
