PhillyGoes2College Outreach Coordinator
The Mayor’s Office of Education is pleased to announce the opening of the PhillyGoes2College office in January 2010 as part of the larger PhillyGoes2College Initiative.
The purpose of the PhillyGoes2College Initiative is multifold:
• Provide information and referrals to Philadelphia students, parents, adults and members of the general workforce interested in attending college.
• Create a media campaign to increase public awareness about access to college
• Coordinate city-wide events on college prep
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive website on services and resources available to assist with the college prep process
The PhillyGoes2College office and complementary website will serve as resources for students and adults who are seeking a college education with the goal of making college accessible to all Philadelphians. The Initiative was created in response to Mayor Nutter’s challenge to cut the dropout rate by 50% and double the college attainment rate in the next 5 – 10 years. The office and website, under the auspices of the Mayor of Philadelphia, Office of Education, are two major components of this important Initiative.
We are looking for a smart, energetic and friendly person to support outreach efforts to all Philadelphia citizens who are interested in attending college. Specifically, the Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for assisting with all functions of the information and referral center and the website. Also, the Outreach Coordinator will help staff multiple city-wide efforts that relate to college prep and college going as needed. The Outreach Coordinator reports to the Coordinator, PhillyGoes2College.
Specific duties include:
• Prepare protocols for responses to in-person inquiries regarding college prep, scholarships, SAT/ACT prep and tests, academic tutoring, etc.
• Develop materials and train volunteers on protocols noted above.
• Develop website calendar of college prep workshops and important dates and deadlines (FAFSA, SAT, etc.). Make recommendations for additional workshops to be scheduled.
• Act as liaison with City’s 311 Office to make sure that information provided to callers is appropriate. Update information as necessary.
• Staff City-wide events focusing on college prep such as FAFSA workshops, college fairs, etc.
• Maintain and update website on an ongoing basis. Create mechanisms to evaluate website usage on a monthly basis (e.g. referrals made, number of people utilizing the site, etc.). Make recommendations for improving website tracking systems.
• Create and maintain social network communications on Twitter, Facebook, etc.
• Represent PG2C Office on committees, meetings as necessary.
The successful candidate must have a college degree. Experience in college access/college prep preferred. Some weekend and evening hours are required.
Come work with a great group of dedicated and fun people and be a part of an innovative approach to helping all Philadelphians get the college degree they desire!
