United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania is focused on identifying young people at risk of dropping out in middle school and early high school years and keeping them on track by increasing the number and quality of out-of-school time and mentoring programs that contribute to keeping young people on track to high school graduation, post-secondary education and training opportunities. The primary responsibility of this VISTA position will be ensuring the community has access to resources that facilitate youth development and move youth along the path to high school graduation. The VISTA will also help with volunteer mentor recruitment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
•Increase the community awareness of and access to information, resources and opportunities that can help youth develop 21st century skills and graduate from high school.
•Research and identify community organizations for potential partnership opportunities.
•Assist in authoring publications, briefs, articles and white papers on best practices in youth development and mentoring
•Research and develop grant proposals for funding opportunities to support and sustain our work.
•Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies.
•Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
•Excellent organizational skills including the ability to coordinate program details
•Competence working with Microsoft Office programs and the internet
•Ability to work in a context of individual and cultural differences
•Ability to communicate ideas effectively verbally, in writing, and through technology to both youth and adults
•Commitment to a team work environment
•Ability to work in a fast paced environment

This is a full-time 12-month term position. Three-days of Pre-Service Orientation (PSO) will be held in Philadelphia in mid August with service starting immediately after. The work hours per week are 37.5, Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
