Position: Pennsylvania Campus Compact- AmeriCorps*VISTA

Reports to: Manager of Experiential Education

Purpose: The AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteer will be responsible for continual development, implementation and evaluation of the Philadelphia Higher Education Network for Neighborhood Development and Pennsylvania Campus Compact Institutionalization of Service-Learning Grant.

Requirements:
? Bachelor?s degree from a recognized and accredited college or university, or three years of related volunteer experience
? Demonstrated commitment to social justice, cultural diversity and poverty-related issues
? Must possess sufficient experience in a collegiate environment to understand the academic culture and must have the ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students and administrators
? Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
? Must be a self-starter and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
? Demonstrates ability to organize and work independently as a leader and as part of a team
? Familiarity with Philadelphia area K-12 schools, social services and Chestnut Hill College community partnerships a plus

Responsibilities:
? Assist in implementation of Institutionalization of Service-Learning Grant
? Explore, develop and cultivate new and existing community partnerships in Philadelphia, with particular emphasis on after-school literacy programs for K-12 students
? Facilitate student learning by assisting students to secure appropriate community partnership service sites to enhance overall academic experience through service-learning courses
? Work collaboratively with faculty, staff and administration to create policy and procedures for ensuring the academic quality and integration of service-learning
? Conduct semester site visits/evaluations with students volunteering at areas service sites
? Act as liaison to faculty/staff for service-learning resources
? Assist in recruitment and administration of Scholars in Service to Pennsylvania program

Terms of Service:
? Commit to serving as a full-time VISTA for one year, from August 25, 2007- August 24, 2008
? Receive a monthly/annual allowance of $949/$11,388, and limited health coverage
? Receive a post-service education award of $4,725 OR a $1,200 cash stipend upon completion of year of service.
? Attend a five-day pre-service orientation August 20-24, and at least three other trainings/retreats as prescribed by PACC and CNCS
