Background: The YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is an education and job-training program for young adults who have dropped out of high school. Students in the program alternate six-week sessions between the classroom site, where they attend academic classes, and develop career-related, leadership and life skills, and the vocational worksites where they develop real-world work skills while completing community service projects in their various vocational trades. The School enrolls between approximately 200 students each year and has been in operation since 1992. Regular hours for this position are from 7:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.
Mission: Our mission is to provide out of school youth in Philadelphia with the broadest range of tools supports and opportunities available to become self sufficient, responsible and productive citizens in their community. The emphasis is on transitioning them successfully so that they will succeed in top-quality training schools, colleges, union apprenticeship programs, other careers and the competitive world beyond.

Job Description:
Background: The IT & Business Administration training program offers students the chance to refurbish computers, learn how to operate computer programs, and instruct members of the community to utilize technology. Students train in Help Desk support and business and design applications then share their learned skills with the community. The program provides selected participants with the chance to pursue a career that has many opportunities for growth and advancement.
The Technology Classroom Assistant is required to perform the following duties:
Assist with technology-focused vocational training for high school students
Work with students to create publications and documents for local schools, churches, and various non-profit community organizations
Serve as a mentor and tutor to students
Qualifications:
YBPCS requires the following qualifications:
Basic technical knowledge, including knowledge of Microsoft Office
Experience/knowledge of layout and design software (optional)
Ability to teach skills to high school students
Able and willing to perform minor manual labor and lifting
Undergraduate degree
Professionally represent our organization to outside entities
Team player attitude a must!
Additional Qualifications:
Your ability to serve full-time from November 2011 to August 2012
Your citizenship status must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States.
You must desire to provide needed educational, technological, or community services to an underserved community while receiving the following benefits: a living allowance of $13,000, an education award of $5,350, loan forbearance w/ interest accrual payment, child care coverage (if applicable), and health insurance
