Computer Lab Assistant – 2 Positions (AmeriCorps) Full-time
The Center for Literacy is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing a range of literacy services, including reading, writing, math, life and work skills, to help a diverse population of learners meet their needs and achieve their personal and employment-related goals. The Center for Literacy (CFL) has partnered with Education Works to offer two positions under the AmeriCorps Program. These positions will be responsible for supporting programming in our new learning center that will include open lab hours for job exploration, job searching, and class assignments; workshops offered by our Referral and Transition Specialists; and in-class lab time as scheduled by instructional staff. In addition, they will be responsible for attending training and special events as required by Education Works and CFL, including a day of service to celebrate Martin Luther King Day.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Supporting CFL learners during open lab hours by assisting with basic computer operation, use of basic computer software programs such as Microsoft Office and Worldwide Interactive Network (WIN), and internet research for completing assignments and obtaining career and employment information.
2. Supporting learners during computer workshops facilitated by Referral and Transition Specialists.
3. Providing individual support to learners when classes are held in computer lab.
4. Maintaining a contemporaneous schedule for all computer lab activities.
5. Ensuring students sign in and out during open lab hours.
6. Attend all trainings as required by Education Works and CFL, including AmeriCorps orientation.
7. Other administrative duties related to the operation of the computer lab.
Qualifications:
1. Minimum of a high school diploma or GED required
2. Computer skills required
3. Experience with social media preferred
4. Excellent organization and interpersonal skills required
5. Ability to work with diverse learners required
Schedule:
1 position: 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday (37.5 hr/week)
1 position: 12:30pm – 8:30pm Monday – Thursday, 9am – 5pm Friday (37.5 hr/week)
Location: 399 Market Street
Reports to: Director of Education
Compensation: $10/hr
