City Year Greater Philadelphia, a member of AmeriCorps and part of the National Service Movement, unites young adults ages 17-24, from diverse ethnic, socio-economic, racial, religious, and educational backgrounds, for a demanding year of full-time service. Corps members work together on diverse teams to build a stronger community and improve education opportunities for the youth of Philadelphia, while also participating in comprehensive leadership development program and earning money towards higher education.
City Year is an ‘action tank’ for citizen service that works to demonstrate, improve and promote the concept of voluntary citizen service as a means of building a stronger democracy. City Year empowers young adults to change the lives of others, and their own lives as well, by giving them the opportunity to serve and encouraging them to be active citizens during their service year & beyond.
Position responsibilities:
City Year corps members work in schools and communities throughout Philadelphia, serving thousands of young people each year through their work. Corps members tutor and mentor students, run after school programs, provide college and career access programs, lead volunteers in service, and develop community revitalization projects.
Specific responsibilities include:
? Perform challenging full-time service on a diverse team of peers, 5 days per week, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.
? Engage community leaders in City Year’s service through presentations and events
? Participate in a comprehensive leadership development program
? Help design innovative service projects and special events
Position requirements:
City Year corps members are required to demonstrate a commitment to improving communities through service accompanied by a commitment to personal growth and leadership development. Additional requirements include:
? Being between the ages of 17 and 24
? Committing to 10 months of full-time community service
? Passion for working on a diverse team of young adults
? Previous team and volunteer experience highly preferred
? Previous experience working with youth, working in a leadership or management capacity also highly preferred
