Paint Your Story of Violence
Visual Art
An invitation to attend a two part workshop, or just one. Participants will have an opportunity to collaborate together as a group telling their stories of violence. The workshop will culminate in the creation of a story where the visual images and words hold each other up and make one another more powerful than if they stood alone.
Artist: Mariel Waloff and Ben Neiditz
Location: Thomas Eakins House 1729 Mt. Vernon Street

November 21, 2005 (Monday)

Poetry Is Art
Poetry/Writing
This workshop will explore how poetry, through the world of words, can be used to paint images of things that affect us. Participants will write a group piece as well as an individual poem that taps into what is meaningful to them. We will explore how visual art and music can help us bring our words forward.
Artist: Tonya McClary
Location: E3 site 5070 Parkside Ave.

These workshops are a series of interactive sessions that will use creative mediums to address issues of violence throughout the city of Philadelphia. The resulting work will be used to inspire the design of a large-scale mural to be installed next spring on the exterior wall of Ben Franklin High School at Broad and Spring Garden Streets. Through the process of creating a large-scale mural and other related art projects, All Join Hands will raise awareness about the prevalence of youth violence, investigate causes of violent behavior, and foster discussion about solutions.
