AfterSchool Group Supervisor, United Communities Southeast Philadelphia

United Communities Southeast Philadelphia has an opening for an AFTERSCHOOL GROUP SUPERVISOR. This position will be available beginning late August 2011. During the out-of-school time program, which starts the day after Labor Day until the third week in June, this is a part-time position, 30 hours/week. During the summer camp program which operates for six weeks beginning in July through the third week in August, the position is full-time, 40 hours/week.
Responsibilities:
– Work directly with OST Site Coordinator to ensure the smooth operation of the program
– Assist with the supervision of staff, volunteers and subcontractors
– Track daily attendance
– Preparation of daily lesson plans
– Preparation of daily snacks
– Implement weekly lessons plans for assigned group to ensure activities are geared toward grade level assigned to group
– Assist youth participants with daily homework assignments and provide individual tutoring as needed
– Teach social skills activities to enhance awareness and appreciation of cultural heritage
– Attend all scheduled trips and activities with staff and youth participants
– Provide lessons that focus on self-protection skills, teaching youth to avoid dangerous situations without conflict
– Track attendance for all youth participants assigned to group
– Coordinate creative and enrichment activities with other lead staff
– Host weekly staff meetings for respective staff
– Work with school administration to ensure smooth communication
– Assist in the facilitation of monthly parent meetings
Qualifications:
– Bachelors Degree (preferred) or minimum of 30 college credits (preferably in Education, Child Development or related field of study)
– Minimum of three years experience working with at-risk youth in an educational environment
– Excellent communication / organizational skills
– Experience in intervention/conflict resolution
– Enjoy working with children
– Experience in implementing enrichment programs with youth (arts, music, cultural, science, language, etc.)
– Must be able to work half-day and whole day program, when needed
– Must be able to work 40 hours/week during the summer
– Experience in lesson planning and classroom management
– Some supervisory experience
– Proficiency with MS Office applications
– Ability to work with diverse population
– Goal and task oriented
