After School Group Leader, 21st Century Community Learning Center

DESCRIPTION: Based in the Oxford Circle neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA, the Oxford Circle Christian Community Development Association (OCCCDA) is seeking an after school group leader with a commitment to young students and the community we work in. The mission of OCCCDA is “to extend healing and hope in the Oxford Circle community, believing that God’s purpose of reconciling all people to Jesus leads us to minister on spiritual, physical, social & economic levels.” Our after school staff work directly with students in grades K -5 assisting with homework, teaching and mentoring during program hours, which are Monday-Friday from 3:00pm-6:00pm.
COMPENSATION: $15/hour for about 15 hours per week.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement age-appropriate and engaging curriculum for daily instruction to children in grades K-5 that is responsive to their needs and the program’s mission.
- Help maintain a safe, clean and quality program
- Follow lesson plans and manage a classroom with 15 – 25 students
- Make lessons creative and engaging for children
- Comfortable working with students in a small group setting and large classroom.
- Work cooperatively with parents, volunteers, and staff to give each student the best experience possible
- Provide copies of curriculum/lesson plans to 21st CCLC Out of School Program Coordinator when necessary
- Use positive behavior reinforcement
- Follow discipline and structure for program as outlined by the Program Coordinator
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be computer literate and able to help students log on when necessary
- An understanding of and a commitment to carry out the mission of Oxford Circle CCDA
- The ability to engage students in grades K-5 through creative academic activities and homework
- Bachelor degree in Education or related field or two (2) years’ experience in a classroom. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Satisfactory clearances and obtain a CPR and First Aid Certification within 3 months of employment
- Ability to work independently is a must
