Asian Arts Initiative to produce installation on right to affordable housing
From June 2nd through July 2nd, Asian Arts Initiative will host artists-in-residence Michael Premo and Rachel Falcone of the Housing is a Human Right project.
The artists will create an interactive installation called The Office Of Human Rights that features over 50 photographs exploring the struggle for Home, stories-in-sound, and live remixing by DJ Spazecraft One built from stories submitted by the public.
The project invites people from a diversity of backgrounds—recent immigrants and long-time neighborhood residents who are seeking affordable housing, people moving into luxury lofts, members of the homeless community—to share their stories and their perspectives with each other. This is a chance for them to tell what home means to them and contribute, brick-by-brick, to building a collective definition of what “home” means to the people of Chinatown and beyond.
The grand opening reception takes place on Thursday, June 2nd beginning at 6pm, followed by a Town Meeting from 7:30 – 9:00pm.
