The PHMC Care Clinic is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that provides quality, community-based primary care to the underprivileged and underserved requiring specialized healthcare and social services. The clinic services the special health needs of the community of North Philadelphia, which has a disproportionately high rate of unmet healthcare needs. Our staff includes physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and case managers who strive to ensure our patients receive the highest level of care. We will be expanding services to pediatric patients and are seeking a medical assistant who has experience working in pediatrics.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The medical assistant is expected to perform both administrative and clinical duties. This position requires previous experience providing medical care to pediatric patients including phlebotomy and immunizations. The medical assistant will also be expected to provide care to adult patients, and should be comfortable working with patients diagnosed with blood-borne diseases including HIV & hepatitis. Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
• Preparing the patient for a visit with medical provider – Including bringing the patient to the exam room, taking vital signs, assisting with medical procedures, drawing blood work, etc. • Cleaning exam rooms, stocking supplies, and ensuring exam rooms are ready for use by the medical provider. • Perform all necessary blood work as ordered by the provider while maintaining standard precautions at all times • Preparing, organizing, and filing patient charts • Performing legal, accurate, and ethical documentation of patient data at all times • Administering immunizations and injections as prescribed by the provider; as well as performing ECG, spirometry, and other necessary diagnostic testing as ordered • Practice appropriate infection control measures including hand washing and the use of standard precautions in all aspects of the job
SKILLS:
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills • Excellent multitasking skills, team oriented, and flexible • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with challenging patients • Must have previous pediatric medical & phlebotomy experience • Experience in primary care, community health, and/or behavioral health preferred • Experience working with racial minorities; homeless; and/or underserved populations preferred • Cultural diversity and sensitivity working with HIV/AIDS patients • Comfortable working with and drawing labs on patients with blood-borne disease • Comfortable working with computers & electronic medical record (EMR) • Familiarity with Quest Diagnostics & Labcorp computer-based lab systems preferred • Familiarity with HRSA CAREWare software for managing and monitoring HIV clinical and supportive care preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of one year experience working in healthcare setting that included pediatrics.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
High school diploma /GED /Medical assistant certification
SALARY: Pay Grad 14
