Penn State seeks a counselor/recruiter dedicated to providing a high level of direct, personal service and programs to ensure high school students’ successful admission and matriculation to Penn State. Responsible to the Director of the Philadelphia Community Recruitment Center for recruitment activities in urban Philadelphia, especially for underrepresented students, along with assistance in handling general admissions matters. Duties include: recruiting and counseling prospective students, reviewing transcripts and evaluating applications; participation in campus regional activities, assisting in community relations activities, and assisting in planning and organizing special programs. Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Regional travel is involved. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Access to personal transportation is also required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and computer literacy are essential. Previous recruitment/admissions experience, particularly in urban schools with ethnically underrepresented students, is a highly valued bonus.
