Challenged Athletes Foundation Invites Applications for Access for Athletes Grants
The Challenged Athletes Foundation provides opportunities and support to people with physical challenges so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. The foundation believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence, and enhances quality of life.
The foundation’s Access for Athletes program is designed to reduce the financial impediments to participation in sports, ensuring that challenged athletes are not left on the sidelines because they can’t afford expensive equipment or training costs. Through the program, grants will be awarded to physically challenged athletes for the purchase of equipment such as sports wheelchairs, handcycles, mono skis, and sports prosthetics and/or to help cover the costs of training and competition expenses. Grant amounts will average about $1,000.
To be eligible, an athlete’s physical disability must be recognized within the International Paralympic Committee classifications. (For more information, see the IPC website.) CAF does not discriminate based on age, gender, level of ability, or sport, but it does require applicants to demonstrate a clear financial need for their request.
See the Challenged Athletes Foundation website for complete program guidelines and application instructions.
Deadline: November 2, 2018
