Academic Success Director, Hopeworks N Camden

Want to be a part of a team working with youth and helping them to reach their DREAMS? Hopeworks ‘N Camden is looking for a full time Academic Success Director for our youth development organization in North Camden.

The ideal candidate for this position will be highly energetic and bring their passion for working with urban youth to our team. The primary task of the Academic Success Director is to empower youth to identify and develop their DREAMS by fostering within each trainee a sense of the value of academic success and to help each trainee improve in the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics . The Academic Success Director will design curricula tailored to each trainee in a one-on-one setting. For youth that do not have a high school diploma (approximately 70% dropout rate in Camden) the Academic Success Director will focus the trainees Individual Literacy Plan towards success in passing the GED.

Duties for this important opportunity include but are not limited to:

Assess the academic ability of all trainees by using TABE test.
Establish an Individual Learning Plan for each trainee.
Work individually with trainees to improve their academic skills.
Establish and manage a group of Literacy Volunteers to work one-on-one with youth.
Establish and maintain a group of mentors with effective, regular interaction with each college youth.
Work with each college youth to meet a goal of C or better in each class.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or other related field.
Background in education with experience in GED training
Experience with youth development in urban environment.
Demonstrated ability to motivate and encourage youth to work towards accomplishing goals and objectives.
