AAC&U: Higher Education’s Compact with America: Shared Principles for the Common Good
Posted by American Association of Colleges and Universities on October 21, 2025
In April, the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) issued A Call for Constructive Engagement, inviting policymakers, educators, and citizens to join in constructive collaboration. In October, we reaffirmed that call, appealing to the democratic values that have long guided our work.
Excellence in higher education is not a partisan aspiration. It is a shared promise—to prepare graduates who can think critically, act ethically, and contribute meaningfully to a free society.
Today, we offer the principled framework below for advancing trust, transparency, and impact in ways that serve students, communities, and the nation.
The statement is open for endorsement by college and university presidents, as well as leaders of scholarly societies and other organizations that share our commitment to the values it expresses. To endorse the statement, please complete the form linked here.
