A New Kind of Back to Work: Talent, Recovery, and the Future of Greater Philadelphia – Oct 2

Posted by Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia on September 29, 2020

As we look back on the last six months, we know that this is a critical time for the future of our economy. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only disrupted businesses but also exposed disparities in training and opportunities for workers. The economy of the future must be built on a foundation of sustainable jobs and diverse talent pools. The Greater Philadelphia area has a unique opportunity to create a more diverse, creative future economy.

While the need to create the right jobs seems clear, the reason for creating a more equitable workforce has moved beyond a moral good to a business imperative. A study in the June 2020 Academy of Management Journal showed that a “1 percent increase in diversity increases a tech firm’s productivity by $729 per employee.”

We invite you to join us to learn how you can be a partner in our work to build a more equitable workforce recovery.

Date and Time: Friday, October 2, 2020, 9:00 a.m.–12 noon

This event is for employers, workforce organizations, and educators who want to learn about creating the jobs of the future and how skills-based hiring is benefiting both workers and employers.

During the sessions, participants will learn how successful local companies are thinking about job creation and using diverse hiring and inclusive internal policies to hire and retain the workers they need.

Attendees will also learn how transparency around job descriptions is creating opportunities for partnerships with workforce development agencies, impacting training programs and placement organizations, and offering clearer career pathways.

Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia President and CEO Patrick Harker will provide remarks on solutions necessary for equitable workforce recovery, followed by two panel discussions.
