Objective

This conference is in the line of the conference held at Temple University in November, 2010, with a number of scholarly papers on “Making Peace in and with the World:  The Role of the Gülen Movement in the Task of Eco-Justice,” which are scheduled to be published in early 2012.

As a continual effort to present peace and its link to social justice, Holy Family University and Philadelphia Dialogue Forum are organizing a conference to be held March 30, 2012, at Holy Family University in Philadelphia. Working title for this conference is “A Just World:  Multi-disciplinary Perspectives on Social justice.” We hold that justice is a pressing concern in the world today, and discussion about it must be, beyond theory, practical and multi-disciplinary. While justice is a fundamental virtue and goal advocated by world religions, the task of creating a just world cannot be solely a religious one. All disciplines can and must contribute to the conversation about what justice is and how it can be achieved. Conference organizers invite scholars representing different disciplines to speak about various aspects of social justice from their perspectives—such as, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, the business world, and education. Although we warmly welcome presentations on the Gülen Movement that has been engaged in seeking ways to create a more just world, we strongly encourage presentations on other topics that foster scholarly discussion of justice.
