RESIDENT DIRECTOR/HOUSE PARENT

A Better Chance in Lower Merion (ABC/LM) is a residential program for academically-gifted minority high school students. Our program, located in Ardmore, houses 8-9 boys from across the country, as well as two Academic Tutors.

This position is part-time and can be held by an individual or couple.
All staff receive free room and board plus a small stipend.

Responsibilities Include:

Fostering a family-like atmosphere in the house
Supervising students and other staff, including weekend coverage once a month
Developing and managing the house budget
Enforcing house rules
Communicating with students’ parents/guardians and teachers
Organizing and participating in recreational activities.
Working with an active Board of Directors and several integral committees
Living in the house (attached apartment provided)

Qualifications:
College graduates preferred
Experience in working with teenagers and an understanding of the challenges they present
Maturity; ability to enforce rules fairly and firmly
Warmth and good interpersonal skills (including organization and communication)
Demonstrated leadership
