2016-2017 United Way Greater Lehigh Valley VISTA Positions
Community School Coordinator UWGLV (5)-Schools-Dodd Elem, Jefferson Elem, Northeast MS, Thomas Jefferson Elem, Union Terrace Elem
The VISTA will build capacity in four major areas through specific initiatives: build awareness about Community School practices, communicate, collaborate and coordinate with school staff, students, families and community partners, establish new connections in the community, data driven decision making, and evaluation. Effectively connect program investments funded by UWGLV to school site to serve kids and families. Identify new partners who could play a larger role in supporting the school; conduct outreach and recruitment. Facilitate data collection and sharing among faculty, families and community partners for continuous improvement and future program planning.

Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley VISTA (1)
The Hispanic Center Lehigh Valley VISTA will support the integration of the Hispanic Center resources into the S. Bethlehem community and beyond. The VISTA will assess and refine current data tracking and measurement systems. The will implement a marketing and communication process. The will help with an alignment of partnerships with other organizations seeking to address similar goals as United Way Community Schools.

Positive Youth Development VISTA (1)
The Positive Youth Development VISTA will support the refinement of the strategy category of Positive Youth Development to bring programs into alignment in a way that demonstrates value to the established education goals. The VISTA will research on metrics and assessments used nationally to gauge the effectiveness of programs categorized as “positive youth development”. They will review current tools used by out funded/unfunded but qualified PYD programs and creation of a more robust tools that incorporates standardized soft measures that align with PSADYN and would be valid as compared to other national standards. The VISTA will assess the similarities of PYD programs currently connected to our network to determine if there are sub-categories of similar programs that could be considered.

Summer Learning Support VISTA (1)
The Summer Learning Support VISTA will support the advancement of our newly created Lehigh Valley Summer Learning Coalition aiming to build a regional summer learning system that supports our UW Community School network at the center and other students and schools as impact spreads. The VISTA will build a family outreach and engagement system aimed at connecting parents to information about importance and availability of summer learning resources and to leadership structures where they can shape direction of the effort. They will map who is providing what over the summer at a more grassroots level in the community including faith based organizations, colleges, universities and smaller non-profits. The VISTA will build capacity with our summer learning work through refinement of the assessment or creation of a secondary survey based on additional data needed to further the work.
