JOB TITLE: Cadence Youth Cycling Coach
COMPENSATION: $11.25 to $15 per hour
START DATE: February 2, 2015
PURPOSE AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, a non-profit advocacy and education organization, manages the youth education program Cadence Youth Cycling that connects Philadelphia youth to healthy lives, active lifestyles, and leadership opportunities through the sport of cycling. Historically known as Cadence Cycling Foundation (CCF), it was founded in 2007 and became a part of the Bicycle Coalition in 2013. The Cadence Youth Cycling Coach will be responsible for the growth and development of a cycling team at one of our 12 sites. A cycling team consists of youth between the ages of 12 and 18.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Cadence Youth Cycling Coach reports to the Cadence Youth Cycling Program Manager.
The Cadence Youth Cycling Coach will:
Mainly work out of the site which their assigned team is located
Occasionally meet with Program Manager at other locations including storage site and BCGP office
Travel to team site via bicycle or public transportation to provide program support
Lead 8-15 youth in a team practice outdoors twice/week for 2 hours/day, weather permitting
Lead a team of youth to event locations on weekend event days
This part-time work with 6-15 hours per week
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Cadence Youth Cycling Coach will:
Train and mentor youth to be better cyclists, better athletes, and better leaders
Act as primary point of contact for youth and parents
Act as secondary point of contact for school contacts
Communicate regularly with Program Manager
Attend monthly coaches’ meetings
Keep attendance, inventory, and student records up to date
Assist the Program Manager in other duties as needed
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The candidate should have the following qualifications:
1 or more years experience ability in working with youth
Highly confident in road cycling and urban biking
Must be available on 2 weekdays between 3pm and 6pm and occasional weekends for events
Ability to write and speak in a professional, friendly and accurate manner.
Ability to stay calm and collected in challenging situations.
Problem solving skills, creativity, flexibility and self-motivation.
Willingness to visit any Philadelphia neighborhood on foot, bicycle or by public transit.
Commitment to following traffic safety laws and using all appropriate safety gear including helmets, reflective material, etc.
Punctuality and attendance.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google docs
Can pass a background check.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
We prefer candidates with these qualifications:
1 or more years experience in bicycle racing
1 or more years experience coaching youth
Fluency in a language other than English, especially Spanish.
Experience with Salesforce database.
Familiarity with the city of Philadelphia and its layout.
