Bridging the Gaps (BTG) links the training of health and social service professionals with the provision of health-related services for underserved and economically disadvantaged populations.
This event is designed to share the work of the program with the larger community as well as to provide multiple constituencies an opportunity to share perspectives on community health strategies, to form linkages and to network with potential collaborators. In addition each year the program gives an award to a person who represents the ideals of the program who also serves as the Keynote Speaker.
About our Bridging the Gaps Awardee and Keynote Speaker
Best known for her role as Detective Kima Greggs on the critically acclaimed HBO series “The Wire,” Sonja Sohn worked with fellow cast members in 2008 on a voter empowerment tour in Philadelphia and through Virginia and North Carolina. She saw how her celebrity could be used responsibly to inspire underserved populations. That same year she founded ReWired for Change to empower at-risk youth and families through education, media and social advocacy, and intergenerational programs.
