2026 Center for Black Educator Development Policy Agenda

We’re excited to announce the launch of our first-ever Policy Agenda: Rebuilding the Black Teacher Pipeline. It’s grounded in a simple premise: the decline of Black educators over the past 70 years was not accidental. It was the predictable result of policy choices made during desegregation — choices that systematically displaced tens of thousands of Black teachers and principals. Reversing this legacy requires new choices. Deliberate ones. Our agenda outlines four priorities: strengthening recruitment and retention, building publicly funded pathways into teaching, expanding mentorship and leadership, and creating robust workforce data systems.
