2025 Freedom Schools Literacy Program (1st-3rd Graders) – May 30
Posted by The Center for Black Educator Development on April 22, 2025
The Center for Black Educator Development is enrolling rising 1st-3rd graders for our Summer Freedom Schools Literacy Academy virtual and in-person programming. The Freedom Schools Literacy Academy gives rising 1st-3rd grade scholars an opportunity to boost their literacy skills, strengthen academic confidence and experience the joyfulness of having their racial identity centered and affirmed. We’ve designed our curriculum so each young scholar experiences the warmth of belonging, joy of learning, racial pride, and academic confidence as they make leaps in literacy.
Students participating in-person must be School District of Philadelphia students only. This year, we will be hosting in-person programming at the following locations.
- Guion S. Bluford Elementary School
- Tanner G. Duckrey School
- William D. Kelley Elementary
- Kenderton Elementary
Please utilize the links above to apply to the location most convenient for you.
We’re also hosting a virtual informational session for families on Thursday, May 15th at 6pm EST on Zoom. You can join us here.
We encourage families to apply early for FSLA as there are limited spots per grade level!
The deadline to enroll your scholar is May 30, 2025. (Deadline extended.)
