Posted by The BlackQuaker Project on January 17, 2023
The BlackQuaker Project is proud to announce the 2023 Black Quaker Lives Matter Film Festival & Forum, a groundbreaking exploration of Black Friends who made a difference throughout both USA and world history.
From February 4 to April 8, we will hold screenings, honoring distinguished Quakers of Color, every other Saturday at 1:00 PM Eastern Time over Zoom.
Our honorees include Bill Sutherland, nonviolence advocate, AFSC collaborator, & imprisoned conscientious objector; Joan Countryman, longtime teacher and administrator in Friends’ schools and co-founder of the Oprah Winfrey Leadership School for Girls in South Africa; Sarah Mapps Douglass, prolific educator, author, and abolitionist; and Benjamin Banneker, almanac publisher, astronomer, and petitioner to Thomas Jefferson for African American liberation.
Programming will conclude with a celebration of the 125th birthday of beleaguered leader Paul Robeson, a descendant of over 200 years of USA and British Quakers.
All our events are now open to the public for free registration on our website here. Please note that you must register for EACH screening separately.
