Save the Date!! Penn Asian Senior Services is excited to host its 2nd Annual PASSi Autumn Festival on Saturday, September 29th from 11:00am to 3:00pm. Aetna Medicare has generously agreed to be our Major Sponsor. They will be onsite with their RV unit affectionately named Cora (short for Corazon, which means “heart” in Spanish) to provide a fun health and educational experience. It will be an outdoor, family friendly event that will celebrate the diverse Asian cultures that uphold this tradition.
Influenced by Chinese culture and the lunar calendar, Mid-Autumn Festival is also a traditional festival in many Southeast and Northeast Asian countries. However, the customs vary among the different Asian countries. It is a harvest festival where moon cakes are traditionally eaten. In Korea, the Autumn Festival is called Chuseok.
The Autumn Festival celebrates three fundamental concepts that are closely connected:
- Gathering, such as family and friends coming together, or harvesting crops for the festival. It’s said the moon is the brightest and roundest on this day which means family reunion. And this is the main reason why people think mid-autumn is important.
- Thanksgiving, to give thanks for the harvest, or for harmonious unions
- Praying (asking for conceptual or material satisfaction), such as for babies, a spouse, beauty, longevity, or for a good future.
Delicious Asian food, cultural performances, fun games and activities, a photo booth, wine tasting and much more! Numerous prizes will be given out to attendees including an Intergenerational Prize for a group with 3 generations are present. All are welcome to join us for this community celebration!
