2015 Emergency Food Provider Report
Posted by Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger on August 3, 2015
From January through March of this year, The Coalition conducted our biennial Emergency Food Provider Survey of 232 programs throughout our region.
One of the most alarming findings is that 89.7 percent of emergency food providers either ran out of or had to provide less food to clients at some point in 2014. However we are encouraged that over 90 percent of those surveyed want to increase access to healthy foods for their clients.
The purpose of the survey is to learn more about the challenges that food pantries, soup kitchens, and other emergency food providers face in our region. We also use the information we gather to update our Food Pantry Map, which helps us connect those who call our SNAP (food stamp) Hotline to the nearest food resource.
