Credits
Participants will receive 3 CUs (continuing education course units) from the Graduate School of Education, University of Pennsylvania, upon successful completion of all course requirements. These CUs are usually converted to 9 continuing education credits in the School District of Philadelphia and other educational entities.
Membership
Participants who complete all fellowship requirements with a grade of passing become Teacher Consultants of the Philadelphia Writing Project, the Pennsylvania Writing Project Network and the National Writing Project.
Cost
This is a tuition free offering for all Philadelphia school teachers. Fellowships cover the cost of Summer Institute tuition, books and supplies. Participants will be asked to purchase an institute T-shirt, contribute to a class selected gift for the writing project. and pay a $20 yearly membership fee due September 1st.
All application materials are due to the writing project no later than 5 pm, March 31, 2010

To enhance the teaching of writing as a critical tool for learning through an active teacher network and high quality researched based professional development while encouraging inquiry and leadership in and across classrooms and schools.

HOW TO APPLY
Send 2 copies of the following materials in time to reach us no later than 5 pm, March 31, 2010. Limit your narratives to 3 single spaced pages with one-inch margins and size 12 business font, i.e. Times or Times Roman.
Complete the cover page and send it with:
A narrative that includes:
• A description of your views of learning and teaching, especially ways that you see writing as a part of a life long learning process
• A description of aspects of your teaching that you would be interested in sharing or enhancing by exploring through conversations about classroom practices with other teachers
A professional resume, including school name, address, academic area, and phone number, education, teaching experience, current position and/or subject, and professional activities of the last five years
A commitment form filled out and signed by you and your principal or designee
A single copy of student writing from your classroom accompanied by an explanation of the assignments and any questions or concerns about teaching and learning that the work has raised for you
Your completed cover sheet clipped to the top page of your application materials

K-16 teachers from schools across the city of Philadelphia held their 2010 Institute on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania at PhilWP’s home offices.
