2021-2022 Camden 12+ Fellows Initiative
Posted by 12+ on September 21, 2021
For the last decade, 12+ has worked to improve education equity in the city of Philadelphia. This Fall, we are expanding to Camden, New Jersey and are recruiting our inaugural Camden Fellows Class!
At 12+, we believe in every student’s potential for success. Unlike some organizations, our staff are available to every student, every day. They greet each student on the first day of school, meet with them throughout the year to discuss their passions, and cheer them on as they cross the stage at graduation. They are mentors, tutors, advocates, and trusted friends. These are the 12+ Fellows.
The Fellows Initiative is an eight-month engagement that opens a channel for impassioned, energetic, and team-oriented individuals to transform the culture of under-resourced high schools. As a Fellow, you will serve on the frontlines of our mission to empower students to dream bigger than they ever have before. What’s more, you will be part of the groundbreaking team leading the revitalization of Camden’s public school district. We are looking for people who are driven to create change and want to be part of a close-knit organization that celebrates its members’ individual contributions.
We challenge you to expect more from our schools, our students, and yourself. Join us in trailblazing the way toward equal educational opportunity.
Responsibilities:
Under the leadership of the Site Director, Fellows implement school-wide 12+ programming, with a specific focus on our FLIGHT (post-secondary access) program geared towards Juniors and Seniors. Fellows also plan and execute cross-school, culture-building events such as College Week and Career Day. Most importantly, Fellows are tasked with building personal relationships with individual students, transforming student mindsets, and empowering them to succeed in education beyond the 12th grade.
The ideal 12+ Fellow possesses:
- Alignment with the mission of 12+
- Spanish proficiency (strongly preferred, but not required)
- A heart for empowering students and supporting under-resourced communities
- Interpersonal skills to work with youth, teachers, and administrators
- Strategic and creative thinking
- A willingness to learn, take initiative, and step out of one’s comfort zone
- Volunteer or leadership experience
- Experience working on teams
- A Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university, or a certificate from an accredited non-profit trade program with one year of relevant experience.
