MacArthur Foundation invites applications for 100&Change competition
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced the launch of a new round of its100&Change competition.
Now in a third cycle, the program will award a single $100 million grant to help solve one of the world’s most critical social challenges. By funding at a level far above what is typical in philanthropy, 100&Change addresses problems and supports solutions that are radically different in scale, scope, and complexity. Proposals must identify an urgent, significant problem and offer a solution that promises significant and durable change.
For the third round of the competition, MacArthur is adding “just” as a criterion to align with the foundation’s Just Imperative, incorporating a sharper focus on how projects advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. No topic is exempt or excluded from these commitments. Ideas can come from any field or sector, but the solution must be impactful, evidence-based, feasible, durable, and just.
Any organization or legal entity, except for government agencies, can apply. Multiple organizations may collaborate on a single application.
After assessing fit through the organizational readiness tool, applicants must register their organizations by August 15, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. CT. Once registered, applicants must complete and submit applications by September 5, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. CT. Each valid application will be scored using a common rubric and will receive feedback from five fellow applicants within the same domain. Based on the rank order of scores, up to 500 applications will move forward, and will receive an additional set of five scores and comments from the Wise Head Panel who will use a common rubric. In the spring of 2024, up to five finalists will be selected to further strengthen their proposals. The award winner will be announced in the winter of 2025.
For complete program guidelines and application instructions, see the 100&Change website.
Deadline: August 15, 2024 (Registration)
