Full-time AmeriCorps Community Project Coordinators at YouthBuild Philadelphia will have the opportunity to foster civic responsibility among our students, strengthen our community, and work closely with our partner organizations.</p>

<p><strong>General Responsibilities and Duties:</strong><br />
● Support the Restorative Practices, Climate/Culture of school programming<br />
● Facilitate &amp; participate in full-school community events<br />
● Coordinate the community-service efforts for the entire student body through service-learning<br />
○ Coordinate after-school and Saturday service opportunities for students by partnering with outside organizations and designing original projects<br />
○ Plan school-wide MLK Day of Service project<br />
● Support the school’s Saturday-School academic-enhancement program<br />
● Serve as mentor to five or six students<br />
● Tutor students through in-classroom support and after school on a rotating basis<br />
● Support student graduation through communicating value in graduation requirements<br />
● Support students in career development planning and placements<br />
● Attend all required trainings and staff meetings throughout service year</p>

<p><strong>Benefits</strong><br />
● A living allowance of $18,000 for the one-year term. The living allowance is taxable, and taxes will be deducted directly from the living allowance and will be distributed biweekly, first by check than by direct deposit.<br />
● All members are required to have health insurance. Should the member not have health insurance, YouthBuild Philadelphia will provide reimbursement of monthly premiums for individual health insurance.<br />

<p>The Data in Education Success Project Leader will develop processes to evaluate YouthBuild Philadelphia’s success in its educational and vocational capacities. This information will be instrumental in how we focus our efforts to best serve our students. The VISTA will develop efficient systems for:</p>
<p>• Tracking academic progress: Establish a system to evaluate data on academic progress and its connection to support processes currently in place. For example, the VISTA will provide support in defining the parameters and resources needed to review the effectiveness of program components.<br />
• Tracking attendance related data: Attendance data provides critical information that can show links to academic progress, testing success, and academic commitment. The selected VISTA will develop processes to take in and evaluate data in relation to these key points, as well as others the VISTA feels would be valuable.<br />
• Tracking graduation data: Research, survey, evaluate, and summarize recommendations for the current class’s graduation prospects by analyzing last year’s data. To do this, the VISTA will be supporting the process of creating and implementing an assessment system that regularly measures effectiveness of programming, including periodic and end of the year student surveys for both current students and alumni.</p>

<p>The Data in Education Success Project Leader will develop processes to evaluate YouthBuild Philadelphia’s success in its educational and vocational capacities. This information will be instrumental in how we focus our efforts to best serve our students.</p>
<p>The VISTA will develop efficient systems for:<br />
 Tracking academic progress: Establish a system to evaluate data on academic progress and its connection to support processes currently in place. For example, the VISTA will provide support in defining the parameters and resources needed to review the effectiveness of program components.<br />
 Tracking attendance related data: Attendance data provides critical information that can show links to academic progress, testing success, and academic commitment. The selected VISTA will develop processes to take in and evaluate data in relation to these key points, as well as others the VISTA feels would be valuable.<br />
 Tracking graduation data: Research, survey, evaluate, and summarize recommendations for the current class’s graduation prospects by analyzing last year’s data. To do this, the VISTA will be supporting the process of creating and implementing an assessment system that regularly measures effectiveness of programming, including periodic and end of the year student surveys for both current students and alumni.</p>

<p>Mission<br />
Our mission is to provide out of school youth in Philadelphia with the broadest range of tools supports and opportunities available to become self sufficient, responsible and productive citizens in their community. The emphasis is on transitioning them successfully so that they will succeed in top-quality training schools, colleges, union apprenticeship programs, other careers and the competitive world beyond.</p>
<p>Job Description<br />
A Full Time AmeriCorps Position; the ideal candidate will have the desire and skills to work with young adults as they grow their skills through a rigorous customer service and digital literacy vocational training track that ultimately prepares them for retail (customer-facing) employment as well as post-secondary education. This position is housed within the Business Administration Scholars (BAS) vocational track a specifically designed pre-college track, where students are prepared to handle work-school-life balance after YouthBuild. With the support of a team of individuals, this position will have facilitating, service, mentoring and extracurricular responsibilities.</p>
<p>This is a half-time 12 month service position from August 13 2018 &#8211; August 19, 2018 paid through a bi-weekly AmeriCorps stipend. Regular hours will be approximately 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM Monday through Friday. However, please note that some irregular hours are expected for this position as events demand. Upon completion of the year-long service term, incumbents will be awarded an educational award as well.</p>
<p>Benefits</p>
<ul>
<li>A living allowance of $14,500 for the 12 month term. The living allowance is taxable, and taxes will be deducted directly from the living allowance and will be distributed biweekly, first by check than by direct deposit.</li>
<li>All members are required to have health insurance. Should the member not have health insurance, YouthBuild Philadelphia will provide reimbursement of monthly premiums for individual health insurance.</li>
<li>Childcare coverage (if applicable)</li>

<p>The duties and responsibilities of the PennSERVE AmeriCorps – Safer Communities Ambassador are, as follows:</p>
<p><strong>Create an engaging service site with partners focused on achieving safer communities.</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Establish partnerships with community organizations that work towards safer communities, community unity, and police-community partnerships.</li>
<li>Facilitate service projects centered around community engagement</li>
<li>Problem-solve with students the day-to-day barriers on the worksite, that arise and use this as teachable moments so they may build transferrable and professional skills</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Customer Service Training</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Facilitate classes to select students in the basics of customer service using an established customer service curriculum</li>
<li>Grade students on their work and meet with them to discuss professional skills attainment</li>
<li>Act as a support to the Customer Service Manager for the on-the-job training in an applied learning site for customer service</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Technology Training</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Teach established coursework to build foundational skills for Digital Literacy that will better prepare them for post-secondary school and employment</li>
<li>Work with all students on their Digital Portfolios</li>
<li>Attend weekly all-staff and department meetings, as well as any other meetings as required by the BAS</li>
<li>Manager and Director of Vocational Training</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Pre-College Support</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Guide and support young adults in the process of post-secondary educational discernment process</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Vocational Leadership</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Believe deeply in the mission and values of YouthBuild Philadelphia</li>
<li>Model professional behavior for students at all times</li>
<li>Exhibit consistent positive rapport with students</li>
<li>Develop teamwork and leadership skills of students</li>
<li>Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in identifying locations and settings of professional-work opportunities, as well as in the teaching tools used in the career-readiness preparation.</li>

<p><strong>Program Involvement</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Participate in the School’s Mentoring Program;</li>
<li>Participate in community-service projects in keeping with the service ethic of the School;</li>
<li>Support the overall climate and culture of the School, including but not limited to, the utilization of restorative-practices for disciplining students, support of leadership development, participation in events, and visits to worksites/internships, as appropriate;</li>

<p>Qualifications</p>
<ul>
<li>YouthBuild Philadelphia requires the following qualifications for this position:</li>
<li>Experience with customer service &#8211; in a retail or customer facing position preferred</li>
<li>Strong ability to use the latest versions of digital literacy tools including, MS Office, Email, Internet, Google Drive &amp; relevant docs, blogging applications</li>
<li>Basic understanding of the college application process</li>
<li>Associates Degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred</li>
<li>Teaching or formal training experience preferred, not required</li>
<li>PA, PA Child Abuse, and Federal/FBI (Acts 24, 34, 114 and 151) criminal background clearances;</li>
<li>Experience working in a team setting</li>
<li>Ability to work enthusiastically with young people who have not completed high school</li>
<li>Strong communication skills, with the ability to present information to groups;</li>
<li>Ability to operate in a fast-paced, highly flexible work—often highly intense—work environment;</li>
<li>Ability to travel to locations, organizations or events in the City of Philadelphia and surrounding counties;</li>
<li>Creativity in developing strategies that lead to students’ success;</li>

<li>Plan and facilitate extra-curricular and student-engagement activities</li>
<li>Serve as mentor to students</li>
<li>Tutor students through in-classroom support and after school on a rotating basis</li>

<p>Background<br />
YouthBuild Philadelphia is a two-year program for 18 to 20 year olds who previously dropped out of high school. During the first year of the program, students earn a competency-based high<br />
school diploma, receive vocational training, and serve as part-time AmeriCorps members. In the second year of the program, alumni receive support to pursue their postsecondary goals; this<br />
position primarily focuses on the second year of the program and works with employers.</p>

<p>Volunteer AmeriCorps Position Description<br />
AmeriCorps/ Postsecondary Mentors have an exceptional opportunity to provide service to their community and impact the lives of students/alumni while earning an educational award<br />
providing the flexibility to gain experience while working, taking classes or just giving back to young adults who have reengaged with high school, academics, and career success preparation.<br />
An AmeriCorps/ Postsecondary Mentor has three main responsibilities as a volunteer with a fixed term:</p>
<p>1. To provide support to their mentees, YouthBuild student AmeriCorps members, as they go through the YouthBuild experience, as well as ongoing support to YouthBuild graduates in order to ensure their continued educational, personal, and professional/postsecondary success towards college, employment, or a year of service. This includes activities in the school building, through social media, as well as at local colleges, employers, community based organizations, and community service sites that may include outdoor locations.</p>
<p>2. To participate in activities and community-service projects in order to learn the skills necessary to become an active leader in our community.</p>
<p>3. At all times, a YouthBuild AmeriCorps Member demonstrates a commitment to service, education, responsibility, and community.</p>
<p>Commitment<br />
 This AmeriCorps position is required to complete 300 hours of service during the term June 1, 2016 through August 10, 2016 (with flexibility available to begin terms in April) and to complete the term early or to be completed up to a year after the volunteers start date.<br />
 Each member will generally complete 10 to 25 hours of service per week, with flexibility to schedule at varied times, but generally—<br />
o during regular business hours: 8:00 am to 6:00 pm during the week,<br />
o community service projects on Saturdays and Sundays,<br />
o occasional evening hours if your schedule allows, and<br />
o flexibility to coordinate volunteer hours around your existing schedule.</p>
<p>The AmeriCorps/Postsecondary Mentor receives leadership from the Mentor-Team Leader in collaboration with the Employment Success Manager in the Postsecondary Career Development<br />
Department.</p>
<p>Qualifications<br />
Must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful permanent resident of the US.</p>
<p>Must be in progress towards an Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree, technical certification, or other postsecondary training program OR have completed one of the previously listed programs, an<br />
apprenticeship, military service, or a year of service.</p>
<p>Skills and Abilities Required<br />
 Skilled at building interpersonal relationships and to work/serve effectively as part of a team<br />
 Demonstrate commitment to making positive changes in the life of their mentee through active listening, non-judgmental attitude, flexibility, caring and modeling good values, and judgment at all times<br />
 Strong verbal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, and community groups<br />
 Dependable and able to maintain positive attitude; to fulfill commitment to term of service<br />
 Willingness to be flexible with scheduling to match the needs of students/alumni and program schedule<br />
 Committed to the concept of national service and to making a difference in the community<br />
 Basic computer literacy<br />
 Able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned</p>
<p>Candidates must have the ability and willingness to do occasional physical labor including: lifting, carrying, cleaning, painting, etc.</p>

<p>Background<br />
YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School is an education and job-training program for young adults who have dropped out of high school. Students in the program alternate five-week sessions between (1) the academic classroom, where they learn core academic subjects and develop leadership and life skills, and (2) a vocational-training site (construction, computer technology, childcare or healthcare) where they develop career-related, real-world work skills. Originally chartered in 1997, the School enrolls approximately 220 students each year. Regular hours for this position are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. though flexibility is expected.</p>

<p>Full-time AmeriCorps Community Project Coordinators at YouthBuild Philadelphia will have the opportunity to foster civic responsibility among our students, strengthen our community, and work closely with our partner organizations.</p>
<p>Requirements<br />
 Ability to attend an orientation on August 11 &#8211; 12, 2016 and serve full 12-month term of service from August 15, 2016 to August 14, 2017<br />
 Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien of the United States<br />
 Hold a Bachelor&#8217;s Degree<br />
 Have a strong desire to provide needed educational, technological, or community services to an underserved community<br />
 Have initiative, flexibility, and motivation<br />
 Have a good understanding of the myriad of challenges facing inner-city students.</p>
<p>Ideal candidates for these positions are motivated self-starters with the ability to be flexible and work well with a team. A desire to work with high-need, low-income students is crucial. Candidates should also have excellent interpersonal, facilitation, conflict resolution, and organization skills. Candidates must have the ability and willingness to do occasional physical labor including: lifting, carrying, cleaning, painting, etc.</p>

<p>Benefits<br />
 A living allowance of $14,500 for the one-year term. The living allowance is taxable, and taxes will be deducted directly from the living allowance and will be distributed biweekly, first by check than by direct deposit.<br />
 All members are required to have health insurance. Should the member not have health insurance, YouthBuild Philadelphia will provide reimbursement of monthly premiums for individual health insurance.<br />
 Childcare coverage (if applicable)<br />
 Loan forbearance with interest-accrual payment, and<br />
 An education award of about $5,775 upon completion of the full term of service (the exact amount of the award is tied to the amount of Pell Grants, which has yet to be determined).</p>
<p>AmeriCorps Community Project Coordinators at YouthBuild Philadelphia perform the following duties:<br />
 Coordinate the community-service efforts for the entire student body through classroom-based service-learning courses<br />
o Facilitate a service-learning course focused on social justice issues that affect residents of Philadelphia, and expose students to community organizations working on these issues<br />
o Coordinate Saturday service opportunities for students by partnering with outside organizations and designing original projects<br />
o Plan school-wide MLK Day of Service project<br />
 Support the school’s Saturday-School academic-enhancement program<br />
 Regularly facilitate extra-curricular and student-engagement activities<br />
 Serve as mentor to five or six students<br />
 Tutor students through in-classroom support and after school on a rotating basis<br />
 Run student leadership groups focusing on student government and peer mediation<br />
 Plan student events, such as picnics, dances, and prom<br />
 Support students in post-secondary planning and placements</p>
