2025 Rapid Response General Operating Fund

The WOMEN’S WAY 2025 Rapid Response General Operating Fund (RRGOF) is now accepting applications!

In response to today’s volatile and unpredictable socio-political landscape, WOMEN’S WAY is offering general operating grants of up to $10,000 through RRGOF. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis, with decisions made within 10 business days.

Priority will be given to organizations that:

serve communities disproportionately impacted by the current socio-political landscape (including but not limited to: immigrants and refugees, LGBTQIA+ community, BIPOC, low-income communities, or those seeking reproductive healthcare) AND/OR
are anticipating a significant decrease in funding due to the socio-political landscape

Recording: Re-Entry and Good Jobs – Building the Second Chances We All Believe In

Today approximately 77 million Americans, or 1 in 3 adults have a criminal record. While not everyone represented in this statistic has experienced incarceration, it serves to highlight that the barriers formerly incarcerated people face finding quality jobs are far more commonplace than we might think. Many returning citizens, who worked for little or no pay while incarcerated, will struggle to find quality jobs after release. Discrimination against those with a record, restrictions on what occupational licenses are available to those with a record, existing debts, punitive court supervision policies, and lack of support to meet basic needs in areas such as housing can force those leaving incarceration into dead-end, low-paying, and exploitative jobs. Some will find they are barred from doing the jobs they worked or were trained to do while incarcerated. And many more lacked opportunities to participate in education or training opportunities while incarcerated.

But across the country, innovative efforts are underway to revamp our re-entry system by opening up access to good jobs. New laws to wipe criminal records and address occupational licensing barriers, legal action aimed at discrimination, and a growing coalition of employers and union leaders are showing that providing a second chance is possible.

The 2025-2028 Strategic Plan builds on a nearly 50-year legacy at WOMEN’S WAY while integrating insights from our work with 100+ partners over the past seven years. Here’s what to expect:

An updated vision and mission grounded in gender equity and economic liberation.
A refined theory of change focused on dismantling systemic barriers.
Core values and guiding principles to lead our work over the next three years.
Five new strategic pathways to guide our programs, initiatives, and decisions.

Why Now?

For too long, solutions aimed at achieving gender equity have focused on symptoms rather than the root causes of inequity. WOMEN’S WAY’s new strategic plan offers an opportunity to tackle these inequities, drive long-term solutions, and create lasting change. Our first Closing the Gender Wealth Gap Forum event of the year, From Extraction to Equity: Tackling Wealth Supremacy, will take place virtually on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 4 PM EST.

In our pursuit of a more equitable economic system where all women can thrive, it is crucial that we first understand the dynamics of our existing system before we can move forward and fix the problem. To delve into this conversation, I am excited to share that Marjorie Kelly, Distinguished Senior Fellow with The Democracy Collaborative and author of Wealth Supremacy: How the Extractive Economy and the Biased Rules of Capitalism Drive Today’s Crises, will join us to explore the connections between wealth supremacy, white supremacy, and the gender wealth gap.

This virtual event is presented in partnership with the Free Library of Philadelphia and will be streamed over zoom in both English and Spanish thanks to translation services provided by el Centro Integral de La Mujer Madre Tierra.

Change the Narrative Fellows Video Screening and Panel Discussion – Oct 19

Each year, the WOMEN’S WAY Change the Narrative Fellowship program trains and empowers women and gender-expansive people with the lived experience of economic insecurity to share their stories and generate awareness of racial and gender inequities that lie within economic opportunity.

At the completion of the program, the Fellows’ stories are widely promoted, igniting discussions and spurring action to improve economic security in the Philadelphia region.

We are hosting a special in-person video screening of the third cohort’s stories with our partners CCP’s Women’s Outreach and Advocacy Center and Love Now Media on Thursday, October 19th from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Community College of Philadelphia.

This in-person event will be the first chance to experience the third cohort’s powerful stories and also an opportunity to meet and speak with the Fellows.

WOMEN’S WAY is looking for a proactive, independently motivated individual to support the Director of the Gender Wealth Institute (GWI) in conducting all GWI programs and activities and support the Chief Impact Officer in managing WOMEN’S WAY Donor Management system. This role would be perfect for a person who knows how to develop and improve processes, improve programs through program evaluation, manage relationships, and coordinate and execute multiple projects at once.

WOMEN’S WAY is the Greater Philadelphia region’s leading nonprofit organization dedicated to the advancement of women, girls, and gender and racial equity. At WOMEN’S WAY, we work every day to remove barriers that hold women back, so that all women thrive. Since its founding 45 years ago, WOMEN’S WAY has seeded, supported, and led an array of efforts to advance opportunities for women and girls, and gender and racial equity for all. The four main pillars we focus on are 1) Economic Security; 2) Safety; 3) Reproductive Justice; and 4) Leadership Development.

Gender Wealth Institute (GWI)

In 2021, WOMEN’S WAY launched the Gender Wealth Institute whose mission is to close the gender wealth gap in the Greater Philadelphia region by advancing research and practical solutions that build wealth for women experiencing economic insecurity. On Wednesday, April 26^th at 6 PM, WOMEN’S WAY, The Forum of Executive Women, League of Women Voters of Philadelphia, and Every Voice, Every Vote will host Sparking Conversations about Women’s Issues: A Mayoral Candidate Forum at Temple University’s Liacouras Center in the Fox Gittis Room.

This will be an opportunity to hear from mayoral candidates about how they will take action to increase women in leadership, reproductive justice, economic security, and safety in the city. We are excited to have Girls Justice League and Juvenile Law Center join us to present questions to the candidates. This is a free, public event.
