It’s time to rejoin the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement to be a part of the study for elections from 2023 – 2033.

To reauthorize:

1) access the new authorization form;

2) obtain signatures from the president, chancellor, provost, vice president, vice provost or senior-level dean, the institutional researcher or register; and

3) email the completed form to nslve@tufts.edu and wait for their confirmation response.

National College Voting Study: Democracy Counts 2020

We at The Institute for Democracy & Higher Education (IDHE) at Tufts University are so excited to share Democracy Counts 2020, our national report on student participation in the 2020 election. If you haven’t seen it yet, we dig into the numbers and feature some wonderful campuses in this report, including UC San Diego, Piedmont Virginia Community College, Dillard University, and Washburn University. We hope this report will give you all a moment to celebrate the work that you, your respective teams, and all of the students around the country did (and are still doing).

Just a quick note to share some recent releases from Tufts’ Institute for Democracy & Higher Education:

Only Days Left Until the 2020 Election: There’s Still Time to Act. Here’s How. – A 4 page report that offers a checklist for higher ed professionals looking to make the most of the waning days of the 2020 election season. In it, Nancy Thomas goes through issues ranging from voter intimidation, to voter data, to discussions about why voting matters.
Last Call for Democracy: A Message for College and University Leaders – A new blog post that Nancy and I wrote for ACE to help push institutional leaders through the final few weeks of the election season, making the argument that these days are crucial.

We have other resources and may add more, and we’ve been putting them in this 2020 Election Hub page on our website.

Tufts University: Election Imperatives 2020

Very excited to share with you Tufts University Institute for Democracy and Higher Education’s (IDHE) latest — a companion report to last year’s Election Imperatives v2.0 — Election Imperatives (EI) 2020!

We’ve had so many conversations this year about the pandemic, racial injustice, the approaching election, revisiting our 10 EI recommendations, and considerations and pivots institutions can and should make, that we felt it was necessary to put out this report. In it, we offer a letter for the context of 2020 as we see it in higher education, an equity checklist for ALL who work in political engagement in higher ed, and recommendations/considerations across 3 broad-scope areas: Senior administrators, faculty/academic affairs, and student-centered practitioners/coalitions and organizations. We hope that folks will read the whole thing, understand the holistic movement, and zero in on the recommendations that align with practice in their own day-to-day work.

Our hope is that you’ll help us get the word out to your institutions, networks, and digital audiences! Our goal with this, as with all of our resources, is that it is widely read, understood, and utilized!
