The GE will have the following responsibilities:

• Facilitate community–based workshop series designed to help grandparents build the literacy/language skills of their grandchildren
• Coordinate interactive literacy activities and special events for families to increase and expand children’s language, vocabulary, reading, and use of words/language
• Engage in outreach to community organizations, schools, aging service programs and other educational/human service programs
• Develop individualized Family Support Plans with each family to set goals, identify learning/literacy activities, track progress, and support retention
• Coordinate and facilitate digital literacy skills workshops for grandparents
• Provide individual assessment and literacy–building activities one–on–one, teaching language literacy skills to young children (aged 3–8)
• Collaborate with child’s teachers/learning specialists, partner organizations and consultants to improve child’s learning and assess program’s impact on child’s literacy
  Provide information and referral to other organizations, including assisting with accessing quality Head Start, preschools, school–based special services or accommodations, behavioral health care services, and other needed services
• Work as a member of a team to ensure high quality program development, implementation, and coordination
• Participate in program reviews, reports, and meetings
• Advocate for the needs of grandfamilies with other systems
• Other responsibilities as needed

Hours:
Full time position. Monday through Friday employment. Occasional evening/weekends as needed; scheduling interactive literacy activities for grandfamilies requires some flexibility. Car needed to travel throughout Philadelphia. Services are currently provided through an in–person/remote hybrid model, which is subject to change based on COVID–19 safety guidelines.

Accountability: The GrandFamily Educator will report to the Family Literacy Project Leader.

We currently seek a Director of Programs due to an interim promotion. This is a full-time, long term position (6+ months with benefits) and the potential for continued, regular employment. As the supervisor and coordinator of our direct service providers, you will report to the Interim Executive Director, and play a key role in helping both older adults and children thrive.

What You’ll Do:

• Oversee, lead, and implement SOWN’s direct services programs including service delivery and outcomes.
• Partner with Executive Director in planning SOWN’s strategic direction and evaluating the impact of changing funding sources.
• Select and supervise direct service staff, consultants, area students, and volunteers.
• Work with development team to seek and apply for funding opportunities.
• Increase awareness of SOWN’s services through community relations, agency outreach, and the cultivation of relationships.
• Prepare and submit monthly service reports to designated funders.
• Oversee direct service evaluation, client database, reporting, and invoicing procedures.
• Conduct leadership training sessions.
• Assist with development of future funding streams.

Requirements:

• Master’s in Social Work with current PA LCSW license.
• Five or more years of experience working with a client population similar to SOWN.
• Supervisory and training experience.
• Knowledge of aging and women’s agency networks.
• Independence and initiative, along with a supportive, team approach.
• Clear verbal and written communication, easily interacting with staff, clients, agencies, and the general community.
• Dependable and driven, with a strong work ethic and personal integrity.
• A valid driver’s license and availability of a car.

Annual salary is based on experience and ranges from $50K to $65K. Our office is in Manayunk. We offer a business casual, friendly work environment.

The Coordinator will:

• Develop and maintain relationships within targeted Philadelphia neighborhoods to build interest about SOWN’s Philly Families Read Together
• Engage in outreach to community organizations, schools, aging service programs and other educational/human service programs to enroll families in program
• Provide grandfamilies with information and referral for additional services that support family literacy success
• Communicate with children’s teachers/learning specialists, host organizations, and consultants to meet program requirements and troubleshoot as needed
• Collaborate with Literacy Educator to:
  • Implement community-based workshop sessions, as needed, that help grandparents build literacy and language skills of their grandchildren
  • Track changes in children’s literacy skills and in adult behaviors and regularly update database
  • Develop, coordinate, facilitate interactive special family events that strengthen children’s literacy development and growth
  • Recruit volunteers to coach grandparents in the program’s digital literacy skills workshops

• Work as a member of a team to ensure high quality program implementation and coordination of services
• Participate in program reviews, meetings and development of reports
• Other responsibilities as needed
